ABOUT EMERGE

Darian Smith is a qualified counsellor, Life Code Matrix facilitator, and writer.  He created Emerge Counselling and Self Development in response to a desire to work with people in ways that make a significant and positive impact on their lives.

Darian spent a number of years working in community development, participating in several projects aimed at building community spirit, social capital, and developing connections between young and old, and among people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds.

As a counsellor, he has worked with Citizens Advice Bureau and with Youthline’s face-to-face department to help clients deal with a range of issues including: lack of confidence, relationship trouble, anger, alcoholism, sex abuse, self esteem, and more.  He also facilitates contact groups for couples experiencing infertility for Fertility New Zealand, and has been involved in a men's group for four years.

Darian was one of the first facilitators to be trained in the Life Code Matrix process, learning directly from the creator, Cilla Sturt.  He knows first hand how the Life Code Matrix process has enabled people to build confidence, increase self-esteem, and find direction in a very short amount of time.

Darian has a Diploma in Counselling from the Human Development and Training Institute, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English from Auckland University, and a Certificate in Transactional Analysis.  He has also been trained in how to run the "Natural High" workshops developed by the Mental Health Foundation.  He is a Provisional Member of NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors).
